It's not about you, point is "market share is very important" to Apple. Saying market share is not a goal is just wrong.
So what is Apple gonna do?
The Android monster is out of control... there are 50+ Android phones out there.
Apple only has 5 phones. Apple sells every phone they make... yet other platforms sell more. It's not a bad thing, bro... I'm on your side :)
I'm sure Apple would love for Mac market share to be higher too... but I think they realized long ago that that's quite a challenge. Yet, the Mac is still kickin' stronger than ever.
At the end of the day... is more market share better? Or more profit?
The only reason Android has so much market share is because Google will license it to anyone.
However... Apple is the only company who makes the iPhone. But they're doing phenomenally well. Check their latest earnings report.

I do not have a practical answer for you, but I had a similar question when I was upgrading the HD in my powerbook - I wanted the fastest drive I could afford as this would give my PB the biggest performance boost. What I found out is that the 160GB 5400 perpendicular drives have about 90-95% the performance throughput of a non-perpendicular 7200 drive. The reason being that because the bit are perpendicular, the drive needs to rotate a shorter amount to read the same amount of data. I know at the microscopic size of the data on the drives this seems hard to believe, but logically, it makes sense to me. My PB is a screamer by comparison to the 4200 drive that was in there, which has not bearing to your question of course...
I suspect, that the 5400 160GB drive from Apple will have decent performance. Personally, I'm not impressed with the 4200 200GB offering, but for someone who needs more space and ultimate performance is not key, then this would be fine.
That all being said, I look forward to finding out the specs & models of the actual drives Apple is putting in the new MBP's before I'd put money down on one.

I currently have a black 3GS, and have been waiting since day 1 for the white iPhone 4. I will buy this immediately.
Since iPhone 5 will probably just be a spec bump and maybe a little bigger screen, I'm not all that concerned about it.

Trouble with all these statements is that they are forgetting that Apple can return WWDC to the software guys
AND then do a media event as soon as the day after and still release in June/July.
The lack of new component shipments could be simply due to the fact that Apple is using components that also appear in existing products and Apple doesn't spell out what the components are being used for when they order them. So what someone might think is just more chips to fill the ipad 2 demand could be only part that and part for a new phone (for example)

This update was unfortunately a horrible bust for me. Autoimporter is not working properly for my iPhone. Safari is crashing on pages where it wasn't before. IDK, maybe it'll work itself out........

Best case scenario is that the proximity is close enough that they offer some kind of discounted deal, but I doubt that. (apple has been known to offer discounts for products that are purchased right before product launches, though).
They usually offer OS upgrade vouchers after an actual release date is announced for those who purchase systems from the announcement to the release date.

I will try to ignore your fan-boyish attitude as I find it mindless and undermining of the quality of MacRumors.
the mac platform is still the choice for the creative class. you won't find more than a handful of print designers using windows. adobe/macromedia sales figures show just about 50/50. creative pros don't care one whit about upgradeability. final cut pro is absolutely devastating the film market right now, eating away at the market share of avid solutions. these are all factual and verifiable.
No it is not and I dare you to prove me wrong! The majority of the creative class uses pcs period. Software titles like Autocad, 3d Studio Max, Rhino etc. don�t even exist for the mac. Your claims sound pretty much like Apples marketing, which tends to be over the top and pretty damn unrealistic. Also by creative class I obviously mean people like architects, interior designers, furniture designers, and people of fine arts and music. I have no idea what you mean by �print designers�, perhaps you would care to clarify?
as for your anecdotal evidence of your friends switching back, i'm sure that has happened. i can anecdotally tell you two of my colleagues have switched recently, buying not one, but two laptops each (15" and 17"). thing is my anecdotal evidence is just as useless as yours, all that counts are cold hard numbers and 4.6 is greater than 3.2. clearly mac market share is on the rise.
You call my personal experience �anecdotal evidence�? Perhaps you need a course in the English language? I would be more than happy to arrange an interview for you at the university of Brighton where I teach in post grad architecture. You could do one of the English courses and learn what the word �anecdotal� really means. As for the legitimacy of my claims you would only need to pay a visit to the UB Art and Design campus to see what once was a computer pool of 120 PowerMacs be filled with 120 brand new Gateway pcs.
As for your "friends" who bought not one but many MB PROS, I�m sure they did. In fact, if they are one bit like you, they must buy every piece of kit apple throws out of the assembly line. I get very good reception in the DC metro area (NoVA). I estimate only 1-5% dropped calls, which is acceptable to me.

amen, brother (sister?).. i, too, am in the original iphone club. i didn't think the 3G or 3GS were worthy of an upgrade.. but iphone 4 was beautiful and i was finally ready. unfortunately, i fell in love with the white so i waited.. and waited..
it's been a very painful 10 months, but now that i've waited this long, i'm trying to be strong and hold out for the iphone 5. i wish i knew whether it was coming out in june or september. if september for sure, i would just get the iphone 4.. argh.
I've become convinced the iPhone 5 isn't coming in June because iOS 5 won't be ready for it and tradition calls for every new iPhone hardware to be released with a new version of iOS. iOS 5 will be previewed at WWDC early June then probably released in September along with its corresponding iPhone 5 launch. I'm not waiting another 6 months with my 3G, I'll be getting the white iPhone 4.
